Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that feature. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. Alexandria Criminal History does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us may be kept long enough to review and answer it. We do not voluntarily distribute those messages outside our organization, although disclosure may occur when the law requires it.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers may record basic technical details when a visitor loads a page:
- Page-view dates and times
- The referring site, when one is available
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
- Device category and operating system
- Browser type and version
- The device's IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and our analytics services help summarize site use, such as which pages draw traffic and where visits end. A browser can be set to reject cookies, but disabling them may change how some features perform.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a search request to the selected outside provider
- Finding and resolving performance or technical problems
- Operating the site and improving load times
- Measuring which Alexandria record resources visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Alexandria Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal-record information. Its content identifies official record channels, including Alexandria Police, the Alexandria Sheriff, the city's courts, the Virginia Department of State Police Central Criminal Records Exchange, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not compiled into consumer reports or third-party criminal profiles.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes that appear on the site. Information entered there is governed by that provider's privacy policy. Each provider decides how long it keeps data and when it shares data, and Alexandria Criminal History does not control those choices. Review the applicable policy before running a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Alexandria government offices, Virginia agencies, court systems, legal aid organizations, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows one of those links, the destination's privacy terms apply. Review them before providing personal information.
Some advertising companies may measure activity across multiple sites to select ads. That process occurs on the advertising company's systems rather than ours.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. Information may still be handled by:
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and site performance
- Advertising networks that serve ads on the site
- Search partners that receive a query submitted through their tool
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for information within our control. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, however, so Alexandria Criminal History cannot promise that unauthorized access or another breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If we learn that such information was provided, we will remove it.
Your Data Rights
Rights may differ based on where a visitor lives. For official Alexandria and Virginia records, the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, Va. Code § 2.2-3700 et seq., governs access to qualifying public records, while Va. Code § 19.2-389 limits dissemination of criminal-history record information. Those laws concern government-held records and do not convert this private site into a public custodian. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:
- Request deletion of personal data we control
- Ask what personal information we retain about you
- Seek correction of inaccurate information
- Opt out of certain processing where the law provides that choice
Updates to This Policy
